Working with Multilingual Learners:
 
Call for contributions:  

Welcome and thank you for your interest in contributing to the ‘Working with multilingual learners’ practitioner/researcher workshop.  

 

Contributions should outline a ‘tool’ that you have used to engage with multilingualism in a linguistically diverse learning environment. Contributions can include:  

  • Tasks and materials  

  • Approaches  

  • School policies 

  • In-class/ extracurricular projects 

  • Research projects 

 Please consider the guidelines below for each format:  

20-Minute presentation: 

  • Include an introduction to your learning environment 

  • Include an outline of your ‘tool’ 

  • Show how it was used to engage with multilingualism 

  • What impact do think it had/ can have?  

  • Suggest ways in which people in other contexts could use the tool 

Poster Presentation: 

  • Include an outline of your ‘tool’ 

  • Show how it was/is used to engage with multilingualism 

  • Suggest ways in which people in other contexts could use the tool 

  • Recommended size –  A2

The aim of the workshop is to bring together resources, approaches and ideas for harnessing multilingualism in linguistically diverse learning environments.  The key questions that will be running through workshop include:  

  • What are current pedagogies being used to harness multilingualism?  

  • How adaptable are they for different settings/teachers/approaches? 

  • How can we best overcome barriers to multilingual approaches in classrooms?  

  • What would a collaborative online ‘harnessing multilingualism toolkit hub’ look like and how can we develop a sustainable resource?
